If you want guaranteed sunshine
Portugal is one of the sunniest countries in western Europe so practically any time you visit will be pleasant. Even in the winter, which runs from December to March, the weather is mild, with average maximum temperatures of around 16 to 17 degrees C.
However, if topping up your tan and relaxing on a beach are your main priorities for a holiday, you'll most likely want to go during the summer, which starts at the end of June and lasts until the end of September. The average temperature high for a day in August is a sweltering 28 to 29 degrees C, so you're almost guaranteed to return home with a healthy glow. There are also few - if any - rainy days, so an umbrella is not something you have to pack.
Those planning to stay in a villa in Albufeira should make their way immediately to one of the city's two beaches, Praia dos Pescadores or Praia do Tunel - just make sure you get there early so you can be sure of securing a spot to lay your towel. If you're on a budget
Should you be looking for budget accommodation, the best time of year to visit is the autumn or even the winter. Remember - if you visit at the very start or end of the season, you can expect warm weather and not too much rain, while the climate will almost certainly be superior to the UK.
