When it comes to vacations, what entices adults doesn’t always appeal to those with toddlers and teenagers in tow. So Luxurylink.com, which offers discounts on high-end hotels, started FamilyGetaway.com last month. Like its sister site, it offers deals and auctions, only they’re geared for families.
Among other things, the site highlights “family-friendly” features in an easy-to-see sidebar that appears once shoppers click on a particular hotel. For example, parents interested in the Sheraton Algarve Hotel on Portugal’s southern coast can immediately see that it has babysitting, a teenagers’ club, a children’s pool and a playground on the premises. The listings are vetted by the company.
Drew Marich, chief executive of the company, said the idea was inspired in part by his own challenges while traveling with his three children. Among other things, he made a list of must-haves that included in-room refrigerators, nearby family activities and child-friendly pools.
Recent auctions on FamilyGetaway.com include a four-night package for four at the Sheraton Algarve Hotel ,with bids starting at $991. There is also a “buy now” option, like a three-night getaway in Cabo for four including a $150 dining credit and $50 spa credit, for a total of $593.
