SINGLE mum Lyn Heron, 49, has not been on holiday for four years.
She was looking forward to her trip to the Algarve, in Portugal, with son James, 13, before she was grounded by the volcano.
She said: “I have struggled to make ends meet, through no fault of my own, so my son James and I were really looking forward to our first holiday in a long time.
“We were meant to fly from Manchester on Wednesday when we were told we could not and it was cheaper to pay for our own hotel.
“Now we have been told we will not be flying at all and I am so upset.” Lyn, of Hunts Cross, said: “I work with people with substance misuse problems. I have done nothing but good, but I feel I am being punished.
“It was made worse by the snotty attitude of the people I bought the holiday from. They just said it is an act of God and hung up.
“What has happened to customer service? It just adds insult to injury.”
Fighting back tears, she added: “I believe I will get my money back for flights but not for my accommodation or transfers. James is a little trooper who has never given me any trouble, but even he has been upset.”
