This led to the claim that six holidaymakers were forced to stand for the five hour flight back from Antalya Turkey to the Russian airport.

The tour company, according to local media reports, offered the passengers a choice, they could wait up to 7 hours for another plane or stand for the 5 hour flight back to Russia. All chose to stand, although they are apparently now seeking compensation.

Irish airline Ryanair has publicised the idea of standing room only seating. However airline regulators quickly dismissed the idea and recently an Italian company came up with a concept design for a new style of standing room type seat which left the occupant 'perched' at an angle to allow a smaller seat pitch and consequently grater occupancy on the aircraft.
Last year, Spring Airlines, a no frills airline in China, tried to get regulators there to approve a plane redesign to allow some standing passengers.
