Since its opening, the motor park has won a number of awards, hosted a range of international motorsport races and welcomed motoring celebrities such as Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Troy Bayliss.
Throughout its two years of activity, the Algarve motor park, which was built in just seven months and represents an investment of €195 million has hosted 15 international championships, welcomed more than one million spectators and more than 1,500 racing drivers.
Paulo Pinheiro, CEO of Parkalgar, which manages the motor park said: “We have shown the skeptics that we were effectively building one of the best circuits in Europe and the world.”
He added that the motor park is not just end with the race track and carting track, but also includes projects under development such as a hotel and apartments, a technology park and solar energy plant.
“We want to be more than just a simple track,” he said.
The future of the motor park looks bright with 2011 bringing Italian company N-Technology to the newly built technology park to work on the construction of the Porsche Panamera S.
Motorsport companies such as Ocean Racing Technology, which supports Tiago Monteiro and José Guedes in GP2 are also looking to base their headquarters at the motor park in Portimão.
