It is expected that more people will be holidaying in Portugal this year with Jet2.com and Jet2holidays.com increasing their offering of flights and package holiday deals to the country.
One of the reasons for this popularity is the country’s reputation for great golf. For years the Algarve, in particular, has boasted a harmonious relationship between great weather and great golf courses.
Yet spending time on the greens doesn’t mean you have to compromise on discovering the beauty of the Algarve. By varying where you tee-off, you can experience plenty of the area.
A Coastline Dominated by Golf Courses
The Algarve dominates the southern coast of Portugal and is home to a veritable network of golf courses, all ranging in difficulty but all promising amazing views as you tee-off. The landscape is a patchwork of green blankets, knitted together along the coast from Albufeira to Vilamoura, taking in Lagos, Tavira and Carvoeiro.
Albufeira is one of the busiest areas of the Algarve, home to a bustling promenade of shops, bars and restaurants. It also offers a three mile stretch of beautiful sand and more importantly home to three golf courses.
The three all vary in price and are easily reached from the centre of Albufeira. Balaia and Pine Cliffs are both nine holes courses offering picturesque settings.
Salgados is the more advanced of the three being 18 holes of challenging terrain with plenty of water obstacles.
Sampling the Sedate Atmosphere
Over in Lagos, which is considered more naturally picturesque than Albufeira, the way of life is more sedate; ideal for some golf.
There are a couple of golf courses to complement this relaxed atmosphere, Palmares is the more established course with 27 holes, whereas the Boavista golf course, which has 18 holes, is more picturesque. The latter of the two is renowned for having a variety of different tree types, often at their best in the summer.
Next is Tavira, which has four different courses for visitors to choose from. The undulating landscape of the resort has made it perfect terrain for golf. All of the courses are 18 holes so there are plenty of challenges awaiting visitors.
Also, it is worth trying to count how many of the 37 churches that are in Tavira you can see.
Embracing the Traditional
Carvoeiro is one of the more traditional resorts in the Algarve, retaining much of its fishing village culture. It is also quite hilly, which has been a surprising benefit to the three golf courses in the area. Vale de Milho has nine holes whereas the other two have 18, with Pinta a particularly attractive course.
Finally, Vilamoura is where you will find the most golf courses, with six in total.
With all of these golf courses to choose from, it is possible to experience everything that the Algarve has to offer. Plus, now that Jet2holidays.com have more holiday deals available, getting there this year shouldn’t be a problem either.
