The Algarve region has been chosen for the “exceptional” quality of its golf courses and resorts.
An announcement of the choice for next year’s event was made at this year’s fair in Belek, Turkey.
“Portugal has been at the heart of the golf tourism industry for the past three decades and it has become one of the best destinations in Europe,” event organiser, Peter Grimster said in a statement, adding: “The quality of the golf courses and resorts is exceptional and we will have all of the necessary logistics to organise a truly fantastic event.”
“The region’s excellent infrastructures, with 250 square kilometres dedicated to golf and the luxury hotels, led to the Algarve being chosen as the host for this prestigious event,” read a statement from the Algarve Tourism Association.
The IGTM is organised by the Reed Travel Exhibitions and will unite suppliers, buyers and the media.
Considered to be one of the most prestigious golf destinations in the world, the Algarve receives around 300,000 golfers annually and has 38 courses “with paths adapted to different levels of the games and unique designs by renowned players such as Sir Henry Cotton, Arnold Palmer and Severiano Ballesteros.”
