The beaches of Arrifana and Odeceixe as well as Tavira Island are the three Algarvean candidates in the running for Portugal’s most wondrous stretch of sand.
“Of all the candidates that we put forward only three beaches were chosen. It is on them that we now have to focus our attention and, above all, vote”, said António Pina, president of the ERTA Algarve Tourist Board.
He highlighted the fact that most people choose to visit the Algarve during summer specifically because of its unique beaches.
The beaches of Arrifana and Odeceixe are running for the title in the category ‘Cliffs’, while Tavira Island is battling it out in the ‘Dunes’ category.
António Pina said: “We ask everyone who normally goes to these beaches, especially the Algarvians, to contribute with their vote for our – and their – beaches. This is a regional project which we must be associated with.”
Public votes for the Algarve’s beaches can be cast until 7 September via SMS, online, via Facebook or by phoning in. For more information, see website: www.7maravilhas.pt.
The winners will be announced live on TV, on Portuguese channel RTP1, on 8
September.
