A bus route is to connect Faro airport to the city's hotels. The new 'Next' service has 21 shiny new buses with frequent schedules. In the final few days of Faro’s mayor, Macario Correia’s masterpiece of transport policy is, after a delay of many years, now ready, "This is a process that took years to mount, and here we are today with a full service modern vehicles that comply with European standards, information on stops and greater accessibility to the hotel and airport."
Everyone talks now of ‘integrated transport solutions,’ and Correia is no exception as there is a ‘possibility’ of being able to buy a through ticket combined with another bus operator (Eva Transportes).
No longer will tourists arrive at Faro and find that to get to Faro centre involves an expensive taxi drive or a stiff walk. Now they can take a bus. Gentlemen, this surely is the future.
This step change in Faro’s development has so far cost a private contractor €3.6 million. The second phase will involve building a bus station in Faro.
The company expects to transport 1.5 million passengers in the first year of operation and Faro’s municipal management will no longer be able to moan that it has no tourists in its fine city.
