Wayne Rooney and a few of his colleagues have already arrived in Portugal as Roy Hodgson told the world’s press. “He’s going to the Algarve this week with two fitness trainers,” said Hodgson. “Manchester United fitness coach Tony Strudwick has been in touch with us. He wanted to know about the pitch in Vale do Lobo. This is a free week, a week where players go off for a break. Many go to Portugal, where they have homes. “Wayne is so determined to be up and running when we get there next week. He’s going on holiday to Portugal and he’s not alone. A few of them are going out to Portugal, that’s where they go on their week off. They don’t all go to Dubai and Las Vegas.” Hodgson insisted there were no fitness worries over Rooney and revealed the 28-year-old had taken it on himself to ensure he was in peak condition. The squad is packed with young talent and only time will tell whether the young Lions will be able to take on the might of Brazil, Spain and Germany. The full squad is: Hart, Foster, Forster, Baines, Cahill, Jagielka, Johnson, Jones, Shaw, Smalling, Barkley, Gerrard, Henderson, Lallana, Lampard, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sterling, Wilshere, Lambert, Rooney, Sturridge, Welbeck. On standby: Ruddy, Cleverley, Flanagan, Carroll, Stones, Defoe and Carrick.
